You must have already heard the terms' Eau de Parfum' and 'Eau de toilette' at least once, but what do they really mean? These different fragrance categories suggest the strength and how long they will last once you've sprayed them. Each scent will have a characteristic aroma, a different mood. Each is exquisite in its own way, but usually, there will be one that you prefer. 

1. Parfum 

Pure Perfume or Extrait de Parfum, also known as Parfum, has the highest fragrance concentration, which is easily found in perfume stores.

Parfum costs the highest price because of its strength compared to all the other fragrances due to its high concentration of fragrance oil, denoting it lasts the longest on the skin while giving the wearer a whole scope of Top, Heart and Base Notes.  

The concentration of the fragrance oil 

A fragrance categorised as Parfum has a 20% to 30% concentration of fragrance oil. The alcohol composition in parfum is also scarce compared to other types. 

Scent Strength 

You can easily expect a Parfum to last at least 10 hours or maybe more. 

Who can use it? 

Parfum is an ideal option for you if you have sensitive skin as it has scarce alcohol content than the other types. It also stays on the surface and does not dry out at all. You will only have to spray a small amount, and it works wonders. 
 

2. Eau de Parfum 

Eau de parfum is the universal fragrance type people wear every day for events and parties. It usually costs less than Parfum. You can spray perfume on your hair and outfit; all you have to do is be careful with soft fabrics such as silk to avoid stains.  

Fragrance Notes 

You get a complete mix of the Top, Middle, and Base notes with Eau de Parfum, but it majorly concentrates on the Middle notes as the Top Notes quickly flashes off of the skin. 

The concentration of the fragrance oil 

After Parfum, Eau de Parfum has the second highest fragrance concentration with about 15%-20% of the fragrance oil, which exudes a powerful scent.  

Scent Strength 

Eau de Parfum has a long-lasting fragrance and can also maintain its delightful scent for up to eight hours a day. 

Who can use it? 

Eau de Parfum can be an ideal choice for you to wear on romantic dates not just because the scent is easily noticeable but also spending time in the heat makes it even more potent. It's not the perfect choice if you work in a compact place because of the strong scent. 
 

3. Eau de Toilette 

The name "Eau de Toilette" originated from the French term "faire sa toilette," which denotes getting ready, so a lot of people believe it is the go-to choice if getting ready for a regular day. It is one of the most used types of perfume. Most labels are typically more affordable than Eau de parfum and are lighter than Eau de Parfum. 

Fragrance Notes 

The top notes are dominant, giving a refreshing and rejuvenating aroma after using it before it vaporises and fades quickly. 

The concentration of the fragrance oil 

The fragrance oils in Eau de Toilette have about 5% to 15% of the fragrance oil concentration. 

Scent Strength 

The perfumes can ideally last from about four to six hours, well, as Giorgio Armani said, “A perfume is more than an extract, it is a presence.” 

Who can use it? 

Eau de Toilette is suitable for the summer; it has relatively high alcohol concentrations and is excellent for everyday wear. 
 

4. Eau de Cologne 

Eau de Cologne or merely Cologne is presumably the most recognised type of fragrances for men. It's affordable than the other kinds and reaches you in bigger bottles because you will require to spray more to achieve a pleasing effect. 

Fragrance Notes 

Cologne does not last as long as the other scents and has a solid top note that appeals to the consumers. 

The concentration of the fragrance oil 

The concentration of fragrance oil in Eau de Cologne varies from about 2% to 5%. It also has an increased alcohol concentration. 

Scent Strength 

The aromas from most eau de cologne perfumes endure for a maximum of two hours. 

Who can use it? 

It is a perfect option for hot temperatures as it does not last for a long time, and you can apply it repeatedly. Remember, its high alcohol composition makes it a wrong choice if you have complex or sensitive skin. 
 

5. Eau Fraiche 

Eau Fraiche has the weakest scent compared to all the other fragrance types. It is supposedly a light, soft, and subtle type of perfume, which is comparatively cheap. It is not as strong as the other perfume options if we talk about its effect, but it gets the job done. 

Fragrance Notes 

If we compare Eau Fraiche with other scents, it does not have strong notes. 

The concentration of the fragrance oil 

Eau Fraiche is unique as it mainly contains water and scent rather than alcohol. The fragrance composition is merely about 1% to 3%. 

Scent Strength 

Scents from Eau Fraiche perfumes can last for up to 2 hours. 

Who can use it? 

It is excellent for you if you don't like heavy perfume. Its result is mild because it does not include any alcohol content, making it a perfect choice for someone with sensitive skin.
